Evaluation and Assessment of the Climate Action Plan for the Florida Reef System
Overview
The purpose of this project was to evaluate the implementation of the Climate Change Action Plan for the Florida Reef System 2010-2015 and assess future needs. We assessed to which degree each action was implemented through stakeholder interviews, surveys, and independent Internet research. A scorecard was then developed to consolidate information on the management strategies underway that contribute to the success of the Action Plan. Results indicate that the plan is in a fairly good degree of implementation, with 80% of the plan’s 40 action items addressed to some degree. The most success was found in research actions, and the area that has shown great opportunity is to start incorporating climate change predictions in fisheries management decisions.
